Gill Smulders is a rare talent indeed.
This artist, born in Durban South Africa and guided at the Johannesburg School of Arts makes no pretences. The true value of Gill lies in the fact that she has stayed passionately true to herself and her art. For just like the artist, her paintings express soul, honesty and very often a quirk of humour, allowing her to capture the essence of what she holds so dear, Africa, it's heritage, people and wildlife.
She excells in most mediums, and subject matters including portraits, figure studies, seascapes, landscapes, and wildlife.
Gill Smulders has studied sculpture with Charles Gotthard but her preferred medium is watercolour and her favourite subject matter wildlife.
Her technique is loose and flowing resulting in an impression which captures all the elements of the subject in its wild environment, colour, form, texture and even non visual sensations.
Her art appears in many of South Africa's most prestigious galleries, vineyards, and exclusive tourist destinations. Gill's art is recognized and admired by art dealers, investors, and the private and corporate world, explaining her 'sell out' solo exhibitions both locally and abroad. She believes that both her art and friendships should last forever, and commits to both with a heart bigger than the biggest canvas.
To look into her paintings is to see "The soul of Africa"
Her work sells well both locally and internationally
