Shannon Phillips - Abstract Artist
Oil painting * mixed media * Etched metal
Shannon Phillips has become an established and recognized abstract artist using her flair and intuition to add balance and form to her artwork.
Her inspiration comes in many forms, including shimmering pieces of glass, metalwork, ornate engraved silver jewellery, peeling painted walls, ageing objects, various textures and graffiti.
Shannon has excelled in the use of etched metal and finds this art form extremely therapeutic; creating circles, spirals, squares, triangle and roses. She makes use of smooth shimmering metal which adds a tranquil depth to her paintings.
Her most recent paintings are of triptych (canvas) landscapes – these are beautifully textured landscapes with shimmering metal. In order to create here stunning work, Shannon uses a limited palette of grey, cream, pale green, blues and neutral colours. White ‘dancing’ calligraphy letters are evident in many of her artworks, adding a unique beauty to her art.
Layers of textured paste, oil paint, metal and calligraphy are the very evidence of Shannon’s individual talent, which has put her into a category of distinction.
Shannon’s insight and passion for art is evident in her unique artworks which bring warmth, depth and beauty into a room.

DEBUT SOLO EXHIBITION AT VEO GALLERY OCTOBER 2004
`TEXTURES’ is a combination of many of the different mediums I have previously used in a variety of independent Art forms. My “etched metal” effect has evolved from an etching course that I did at “Ruth Prowse”, at the age of 15. I was excited at the physical side of metal plate etching, and the effect it created. My love for gilding continued from the early 90`s, where I used `gold leaf’ (Dutch metal) to gild picture frames, to where I am at this present place and time. There is a captivating effect in the reflections of silver and gold.
I have always been involved in art projects in one or another from, and continuously looking for new and exciting possibilities. My attitude is that “life is never at a standstill.”
This exhibition has given me the opportunity to be more focused, and to allow all of my art expression to come through in my paintings.
Some of the mediums that I enjoy working with are: “Metal, rust and cretestone,” I also like to include different ‘effects’ into my paintings techniques. Ie ‘antiquing, distressing, translucency and calligraphy’ are part of this effect, and I prefer using neutral or pastel colour palette.
My inspiration comes from the environment, in its many forms, and from other artists. My art expresses the very essence of myself as an artist. It is constantly evolving and very exciting with it’s endless range of new possibilities…
